Salaried GP – 7 Sessions


Second Street Surgery, Gateshead

Second Street Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Salaried GP to join our welcoming and supportive team for 7 sessions per week.


We are a friendly, patient-focused practice serving a diverse community in Gateshead, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, continuity of care and staff wellbeing.

Conveniently located in Bensham, Gateshead, the practice offers excellent commuter access via the Redheugh Bridge and Tyne Bridge, making it easily accessible from Newcastle and North Tyneside.


Working Pattern

The sessions are currently:

Monday – all day, Tuesday – morning, Wednesday – all day, Friday – all day


About Us

You will be joining a close-knit and collaborative clinical team consisting of:

  • 3 GPs

  • Clinical Pharmacist

  • Advanced Nurse Practitioner

  • 2 Practice Nurses

  • 2 Healthcare Assistants


We also benefit from excellent multidisciplinary support through our Primary Care Network, including:

  • Frailty Nurse

  • Social Prescribing Link Workers


Teaching & Development

We are proud to support medical student teaching for Sunderland medical students and would particularly welcome applications from candidates with an interest or experience in teaching and mentoring.


For candidates wishing to develop this area of their career, we are happy to provide support and encouragement towards becoming a GP trainer.

We are also supportive of developing specialist interests and are keen to help clinicians grow professionally within the practice.

Session Structure

  • 13 appointments per morning session

  • 13 appointments per afternoon session


We hold a weekly team meeting every week, with meetings rotating between:

  • Practice meetings

  • Clinical meetings

  • Palliative care meetings

  • Safeguarding meetings

We are looking for a GP who:

  • Works well within a multidisciplinary team

  • Is committed to delivering high-quality patient care

  • Values continuity and community-focused general practice

  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Has an interest in teaching and mentoring, or would like to develop these skills

  • Wishes to contribute positively to a supportive practice culture
