Election of LMC Members

Under the terms of the Constitution of the Gateshead & South Tyneside Local Medical Committee it is necessary to arrange for the election of committee members for the period 1 April 2020 – 31 March 2024.

The Local Medical Committee meets on a Monday evening, for approximately 2.5 hours, 8 times per year, and a fee of £112.32 is available for each meeting attended.

Represented GPs are those performing primary medical services in the area for which the Committee was formed. The Register of Members is the combined register of represented GPs and committee members.

Represented GPs whose name appears in the Register of Members on 1 January in the year that the election takes place may be nominated. Every candidate for election must be nominated by at least two electors entitled to vote and the nomination in writing must be returned to the Returning Officer not later than 5pm on Friday 28 February 2020.  The nomination form is here.  Nominations cannot be accepted if the nominee has not duly signed the declaration.

If more than 6 candidates are nominated, an election will take place by postal vote.  If there is an election, the voting papers issued should be returned by 5pm on Friday 27 March 2020.  The election will take place on the morning of 30 March 2020.

The document 'Roles and Responsibilities of Members' is here.
