Contract type: Permanent Salaried GP Post 4-5 sessions on a Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday.

Annual leave: Six weeks annual leave plus public/bank holidays and two NHS days (pro rata for part-time).

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and innovative GP to join our small and very friendly practice.

We have a list size of 4600 patients and serve a diverse community including a high proportion of Orthodox Jewish and migrant patients. We are a training practice for medical students and other allied health professionals and we are passionate about developing our team to be the best they can be and pursue interests that enhance the service we provide to our patients.

The practice has excellent transport links to Newcastle, Tynemouth and Durham. For further information about our practice go to www.secondstreetsurgery.nhs.uk

The practice is fully computerized and paper light (EMIS Web with Accurx, Iplato, Ardens and Econsult) with links to pathology via the ICE system. We have a document management system in place to reduce GP administrative workload. We have a very low home visiting rate.

Our small and welcoming practice team consists of a Business Partner, GP Partner, five Salaried GP's, Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurse, HCA, Migrant Health Coordinator, Operations Manager, Reception Team Lead, Quality and Governance Lead and four Reception Care Navigators.

We are members of the Birtley and Central Gateshead PCN and enjoy excellent relationships, collaborative working and mutual support with our PCN colleagues. We have two PCN Pharmacists, two social prescribing link workers and two frailty nurses that work with our practice teams.

We welcome applications from newly qualified GP's looking to develop their skills and/or experienced GP's looking for a supportive and friendly practice to settle in. We are particularly interested in hearing from GP's that have an interest (or would like to develop an interest) in minor surgery, migrant health, women's health, prescribing, long term conditions or safeguarding. Any other interests can be considered too.

If you are a GP looking for a Post CCT Fellowship the business partner has an excellent track record in successfully designing fellowship bids and being awarded funding for them. Previous fellowships awarded include health inequalities, diabetes, paediatrics and two migrant health fellowships. The 24/25 Fellowship applications deadline is 15.08.24. Get in touch as soon as possible if you would be interested in a fellowship in one of the following categories.

  • System leadership – Supporting emerging GP leaders within the local healthcare system

  • Health equity – Using the fellowship programme to reduce health inequalities

  • Clinical – Helping GPs to develop a clinical special interest e.g. dermatology, frailty, palliative care

  • Academic – Supporting early academic careers

  • Educational – Stimulating early career GP educators through involvement with undergraduate or postgraduate education

Informal enquiries and visits are welcome. To arrange please contact Business Partner, Teresa Graham, on 0191 4772430.
