Second Street Surgery: Salaried GP

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

Part time – Up to 6 sessions per week

Sessions available are Monday and Friday mornings, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s all day. Start time can be flexible to fit around the school run (or other commitments) if required.

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated salaried GP to join our small and friendly team. We are a GMS practice and we pride ourselves on offering a supportive work environment. We have a flexible approach to working as we believe that a positive work environment benefits our team and in turn our patients.

Our clinical team consists of one GP Partner, two salaried GP’s, Practice Pharmacist, Practice Nurse, HCA/Care Navigator and a Frailty Nurse. In addition to this we also a Business Partner, Operations Manager, Reception Team Lead, three Reception Care Navigators and COVID Care Coordinator.

We are part of a forward thinking and very community focused Primary Care Network made up of three practices with a population of approx 37,000. In the coming year we have plans to recruit a Mental Health Worker to complement our existing PCN team of Link Workers, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Nurse Associates.

The ideal candidate will be highly patient focused and excited about working with our team and PCN to provide outstanding patient care.

  • 9.5K per session

  • Flexible start and finish times

  • Home working available

  • Opportunity to pursue special interests and take on lead roles if desired

  • Good work life balance- working day is between the hours of 9-6pm (unless on call from 8am) and GP’s finish work on time.

About us

We are a small practice with 3700 patients. The practice is part of Newcastle Gateshead CCG and serves a diverse demographic including the local Orthodox Jewish Community. We have a higher than usual younger demographic and a lower than usual elderly demographic.

A typical working day consists of 13 appointments in the morning and 13 in the afternoon plus visits if required. Appointments can be 10 minutes or 15 depending on preference.

We get very few home visit requests, typically 1 or 2 per week pre COVID and now down to 1-2 per month. We have a document management system in place to minimise administrative work for our GP’s. This includes safeguarding reports being completed by an administrator.

For further information about our practice go to www.secondstreetsurgery.nhs.uk

The practice is fully computerised (EMIS Web and paper light with links to pathology via the ICE system).

For informal enquiries or to arrange a visit contact Business Partner, Teresa Graham, on 0191 4772430. Locum sessions available to get a feel for the practice and how we work if interested in applying for this post.
